ORIGINAL MOUNTAIN LEGENDS AND MORE 1

SUMMER EPISODE

“IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND NATURE BE PREPARED FOR THE EXTREME SURPRISES”.

Let me present the magic of the mountains with which I lived for 18 years. At that moment, I only visit these places during the holidays, but the charms still arouse great emotions in me.

WONDER OF NATURE

The everyday scenery of the mountains leaves you with an unbelievable, even majestic sense of beauty. I see the wonderful view, lovely landscapes, and incredible beautiful roe-deer walking close to my windows.

Second, I can hear the delightful singing of birds and the soothing murmur of streams. The unforgettable scent of flowers wafted around the house, with the loud buzzing of bees collecting nectar.

GIFT OF ORCHARDS

Then I am delighted with the memories of the whole orchard, full of fruit trees such as apple trees, plums, cherries, pears, and even walnuts. In another garden, they surround me with bushes covered with juicy raspberries, currants, gooseberries, aronia, strawberries, and blueberries.

HERBAL GOODNESS

Also, I didn’t forget the cooling smell of fresh herbs grown in a small garden. Mint and lemon balm are just at your fingertips ready to be used on hot days to cool me down. I just throw the leaves of these herbs into ice-cold water or even better into fresh-made raspberry lemonade. In winter I make tea from these herbs. For example, chamomile tea with honey keeps me warm but also relaxes me.

AND MORE

In storage, just behind the corner, not from the shop, we store milk, eggs, juices, pickled cucumbers, pickled pepper, (any fruit or veggie that you can pickle), and jams prepared with my own hands. The main reason we collect such supplies is long, cold winters. When we cannot shop on a daily basis, we eat this excess of delicacies.

What the secret life in the mountains looks like?

I can write a lot about these phenomenal wonders of mountain life, only the truth is far elsewhere. https://littlepuzzlesandme.com/original-mountain-legends-and-more-2/

After a long day of work on the farm, we relax on the sun loungers. Finally, the work is done. We are exhausted and sweaty, but satisfied with the results of the day. We drink raspberry lemonade with a few leaves of refreshing mint, which pleasantly cools our bodies.

A summary of today’s work in the list below:

☑︎grass cut, collect the grass, and move it to a dry place

☑︎throw away the weeds

☑︎picking fruits or vegetables

☑︎plant more vegetables and herbs

☑︎transplant flowers and veggies

☑︎water them

☑︎animals fed

☑︎eggs collected

And much more jobs, in our impressive and breath-taking farm, completed.

We were in the process of preparing the entire task schedule for tomorrow when our dog started barking. Lost tourists are the norm in my area. GPS loves to lead them on our winding, difficult, and at the same time beautiful road to nowhere. instead of the popular five-star hotels in the neighboring town, GPS leads them to an abandoned and forgotten village.

Then a dialogue began that created the plot for my little comedy:

"What a great place, a beautiful house with an amazing garden."
"Thank you, I love it too."
" You must have a wonderful life in this spectacular scenery. Wake up to the singing of forest birds, inhale the clean mountain air every day and fall asleep at the lovely sunset."
"Exactly like you say."
"And the fruit must be delicious."
"Please try."

And the lady went to pick it up and we never saw her again, I’m kidding! The story will be less sharp but still sharp:

"Dad, we should tell her about Lilly".
"Don’t worry is evening time, she is probably inside."

And then we heard a scream that made all the birds fly and my dog started to howl:

"Here's a snake, a snake, help me, please!"
"It's just a Lilly, a grass snake, it doesn't bite, it doesn't kill, it tans. She's probably worse scared than you are."

The lady stopped shaking and calmed down a little.

"Try vegetables and fresh herbs from a different side of the garden."
"Are they free from this monster?"
"Yes, there are only chicks and hens around."
"I love a chick, and when we were on one of the farms, the gentleman let us pet the chick."

After a minute the dog starts to howl again and our tourist jumps up, screams, and runs away:

"Take her from me, she wants to kill me!"
"Who? My sweet Suzi, she just defending her little ones."
"Dad, it's not funny, this woman is about to have a heart attack."

The “Lost Lady” quickly returned to her natural color. I went to pick more raspberries for her. Lilly lay on the hot stones, still unmoved.

Mom was already giving the lost tourist camomile ice tea to control her nerves. Dad packed a few jars of pickled cucumbers for her, a dozen eggs, and a bunch of herbs and flowers. The sun was down and our little farm was slowly returning to normal. Only the dog looked scared until the lady’s car vanished into the distance.

"You should write this story, it's a good plot for a comedy."
"Not for everyone, Dad, not for everyone."

to be continued
