How to create a DIY bicycle out of cocktails straw?
“Use children’s art to color your life”
It’s still snowing outside the window and it’s still -6. I tell myself, just a few more days and January will end (the coldest month), then February will be short and in March we will slowly welcome spring. For children, fun in the snow never gets boring, they don’t mind wet gloves. Recently they found more fun than building snowmen, building snow tunnels and snowball fights, now they are looking for icicles. On the way home, I lack energy, but the children’s energy doubles. It’s the perfect time for a new project in your creative corner.
With a new craft idea from “my little puzzles”, we will run away from winter and gray again. It will be a project announcing the beginning of spring, which we all miss. My kids will reuse very few of the materials you probably have in your cupboard.
After the last colorful umbrella project, https://littlepuzzlesandme.com/how-do-children-make-colorful-umbrellas/ we have cocktail straws, why not use them to create a DIY BICYCLE.
What little puzzles will be created today?
BICYCLE made of cocktails straws
What my little puzzles don’t need?
DISTURBING PARENTS
We used hot gun glue for this project so I had some concerns I helped Dorothy and Patrick with gluing the straw but for the rest of the project they worked alone.
What do my little puzzles need?
▪︎full stomach
▪︎drink near to them
▪︎smile
▪︎chill out music
▪︎good energy
And everything on the list below:
☆tables cover
☆colouring paper or construction paper
☆pencil
☆plastic glue gun – Hot melt glue works well with a plastic straw, and gives a durable bond.
☆scissor
☆plastic container (to draw the shape of the square)
☆ straw
☆ playdough
☆everything that will help your child make the DIY bicycle look unique
What will we use for an unplanned mess?
☆ wet wipes
☆ kitchen paper
Step-by-step process of making BICYCLE:
1. Draw the shapes of the square from the plastic container.
TIPS:
The small plastic container is much better. Ours was 4 cm.
2. Cut out 8 squares for 2 bicycle wheels.
3. Fold the squares into an accordion. The picture below will help you.
4. Fold the accordion in half and glue the halves together.
5. Glue all 4 parts of the accordion together to make one bicycle wheel. (two wheels – 8 pieces of accordion)
6. Make a bicycle structure from straws: a bicycle frame, a handlebar, and a bicycle saddle, and glue them.
7. Having a ready bicycle structure made of straws, we connect the wheels by gluing them (melt glue)
8. Check out our photos below and more of our DIY projects in video clips at: https://www.instagram.com/missmarbell_/
