HOW A MOTHER’S MIND WORKS VS A CHILD’S MIND?

“I don’t have a baby brain, that’s a ridiculous myth. Now please bring me the box of cereal I put in the fridge.”

THE MYSTERY OF MOM’S LACK OF MEMORY

Unfortunately, my mind, my baby brain, is annoying me terribly. https://littlepuzzlesandme.com/being-a-new-mom-doesnt-mean-being-the-best/
I leave the kitchen to get something for the bathroom and come back empty-handed. I have 3 things to buy, literally 3, and I will buy five, of which the three most important ones I will forget two.

All my visits, not the pleasant ones, but the mandatory ones that take place several times a year, such as visits to the dentist, hygienist, hairdresser, beautician, have to be written down by me, preferably on small pieces of paper that I carry in my wallet and also on my phone.

When I start to feel how bad I am with this lack of memory, my mood improves when I see my children have the same thing.

The stories are original. My daughter can get rid of all her hair clips in a week. My lipstick, her lipstick, and other things from my bag also disappear into another time zone.

And not because she lost them; she just hid them somewhere or left them somewhere other than her makeup cabinet, usually in one of her 100 purses or backpacks.

On the other hand, Patrick will first make a fuss that someone has taken something from him, then he will remember it or find it in his pocket. In most cases, it works that way with him. With Dora, things are never found in such an easy way. There is this bit somewhere in the house, but in such a place that you won’t find it for months.

THE MYSTERY OF THE MISSING CUSHIONS

The last story is about the couch cushions. I looked for them for half a year. Finally, I decided that the kids must have thrown them over the balcony, and someone had taken them. It was only when we were going on vacation that I found the cushions stuffed in the kids’ suitcases. Why??? Why hide pillows in such a place? Even my children couldn’t explain it.

THE MYSTERY OF THE LOST TREASURES FROM THE WALK

It has happened to us more than once that together with the children, we have searched in our pockets for a stone that I had thrown away long ago on the way. After several dramas that resulted from such lost stones, we realized that we bring home all sorts of things: glass or plastic balls, pieces of plastic, unspecified parts of unspecified objects, and simply all kinds of rubbish. We take it home so that there is no drama. The funniest thing is that in a child’s mind, the memory of such a trifle is immediate and lasts forever.

THE MYSTERY OF THE LOST PICTURES FROM NURSERY

Similarly, the memories I would consider lasting for a child are the drawings they bring home from Nursery or preschool.

After a whole week of disinterest in drawings that usually end up in the recycling bin. Then the epiphany comes, and the child wants to see these masterpieces.

If they are just crumpled drawings that can be straightened out, then it’s no problem. It’s worse when I’ve cleaned out my bag and thrown them away. Then you have to quickly come up with a story about how they disappeared, e.g., there was a strong wind and they blew them out of the bag, or tomorrow we’ll check if we didn’t leave them in the nursery locker. I bet every parent has had the experience of rummaging through the recycling bin with their children looking for drawings from a week ago.

THE MYSTERY OF THE MISSING ATM CARD

You won’t believe where my two-year-old son hid my husband’s bank cards for months. If it weren’t for a leak in the washing machine at home, we probably would never have known that my husband’s credit cards had met such an end. Each time, we were convinced that Patrick had simply lost them somewhere. Even when Dalibor called the bank, the lady didn’t ask for a reason a third time, she simply sent a new card. Then, one day, the washing machine stopped working and flooded everything around it. The workers pulled out the cabinets, and the bank cards fell out of the gaps.

MY BRAIN

And maybe I don’t have half of my brain working properly, but when I watch Dora or Patrick, and the next day they make a drama about where their stuff disappeared, I always have at least a little bit of an idea where they last put the things. But without watching, everything disappears for years. https://littlepuzzlesandme.com/mommy-and-dark-magic/
