How do children create an Octopus family from toilet paper rolls?
“ENCOURAGE KIDS TO BE CREATIVE WITHOUT WORRYING ABOUT BEING PERFECT”.
Dav Pilkey
Hello, again my busy parents. Today I am going to share with you the simplest idea for home activities with children.
I caught this idea on a rainy day while reading an article and I remembered the following sentence: “Toilet paper is safe for making crafts. The risk of injury from craftsmanship is minimal.” The main reason why I and my kids like art made of this material.
The second important issue is the ability to create from this material also by my two-year-old daughter.
Thirdly and most beautiful argument for why I decided to create an octopus family with my children, was watching my small daughter copying his older brother’s work and having a great time doing it.
During the hours of crafting, my children and I found ideas to create various animals, planes, cars, houses, and even cartoon characters. For more examples of this type of craft, see the next project here https://littlepuzzlesandme.com/how-children-make-pencil-holder-from-toilet-paper-rolls/
Not only is this art great, but it also gives my kids a lot of fun throughout the creative process.
In conclusion, more rolls of toilet paper are more fun for kids. My “little puzzles” started with a green octopus, after that made a red octopus, and ended with creating a whole family of octopuses.
What little puzzles will be created today?

What my little puzzles don’t need?
DISTURBING PARENTS
Help them only when they ask you. My little girl is having trouble with scissors so I’ll help her a bit, but my son was absolutely fine. I prefer to admit, that art is incredibly easy, but messier too. Extremely dirty when we use acrylic paints for our art.
What do my little puzzles need?
- full stomach
- drink near to them
- smile
- patience-only because they create together
- good energy
And everything on the list below:
☆tables cover
☆empty toilet rolls
☆acrylic paints, markers, crayons, i.e. everything you have at home that best suits your child
☆scissors (most of the time I help my daughter)
☆glue
☆wood or plastic sticks for applying glue
☆wiggly eyes stickers, but not necessary, children can draw
☆construction paper or foam paper, all variety of colours
☆anything that will help your child to better decorate the octopus
What will we use for an unplanned mess?
☆ wet wipes
☆ toilet paper
Let me show you how easy the process of creating an octopus is:
1. Paint the toilet roll in your favourite colour.
TIPS:
*Use a small amount of water, because the roll becomes softer.
2. Cut the bottom of the roll into strips, they don’t have to be thick or thin, your child will choose the best style.
3. Glue two wiggly eyes onto your octopus.
4. Any more details like a mouth, nose, or hair can be coloured or use foam paper.
5. Create your favourite octopus in your unique style.
6. Check out our photos that will help your child with creation.
